Norwich-based producer and DJ T>I, also known as Matthew South, began releasing music on DJ Marky’s Innerground Records in 2012. South traces his interest in rave culture and drum and bass to a rave he attended with his older brother. He moved from DJing into promoting events in eastern England, then into production. South says his older brother and a friend took him to Dreamscape 11 for that first rave in 1994. He has said that T>I originally stood for “Total Integration” and later came to mean “The Infuriator.”
Support for “Freak”, made with Dominator, helped South commit to developing his sound. Innerground released “Freak & Dark Age” with Dominator. T>I has also released music through Silent Type, Sativa’s Hangar imprint and Playaz. His 2010 track “Tokyo Terror” received support from Rennie Pilgrem. Two of his dubstep tracks, “Howard’s Note” and “Mindless Torture”, received airplay from Flux Pavilion and Doctor P.
South says he usually starts tracks with the drums, building simple, dancefloor-focused DJ tools designed for mixing. He has described aiming for groove-led drum and bass, with warm basslines, clean drums and percussion rather than abrasive sounds. His album Blank Canvas came out on Critical Music in 2020, following the single “Flick The Switch”. South later described the album as deliberately open-ended, with titles that did not need to share a particular meaning. He has also released music through Critical Music and Sofa Sound, and his work is rooted in drum and bass and jungle.
In 2026, T>I released “Cold Cuts Part.2” on Critical Music and “Lost For Words” on Sofa Sound. Other releases that year included Spotlight Series Vol. 3 on Serial Killaz and “Send It EP” on Playaz Recordings with Run In The Jungle. He also released “RUN ALL DAY 26” on RUN with Run In The Jungle and TC.
