Nick Kingsley began making music at 13, initially playing guitar, before moving from bands into electronic production after university. Tut Tut Child is the London musician’s electronic project, and Kingsley has said its name came from a line in Alice in Wonderland. He began producing in summer 2009, starting with electro house before turning towards heavier bass music. His influences also reach beyond electronic music, including 1940s swing and metal.
Going Quantum contacted Kingsley after hearing his music on Dubstep.net, leading to his association with Monstercat. The EP Dance To It appeared on the label in 2012, followed by the single “Drop That Child”, a collaboration with Droptek. Kingsley said working with Droptek suited them because both producers lived in London and could meet to make music in person. In 2014, Monstercat released his EP Ask Your Friends First.
His 2016 album Come to the End; Then Stop included vocals from Augustus Ghost, Holly Drummond, Tasha Baxter and Danyka Nadeau. Jim Davies played guitar on “Talking of Axes”, a collaboration with Kingsley included on the album. In a 2016 interview, Kingsley called the album his proudest work. His releases have also appeared on Simplify Recordings and LU10 Records, and “Hot Pursuit” was a Monstercat single. In 2015, he released “Groupies (Faustix Remix)” on Simplify Recordings with SPLITBREED.
Kingsley later worked with Augustus Ghost on the 2021 EP Borderlines. Tut Tut Child and EMAN8 also collaborated on “Living By Faith”, while “If I Could” is a single featuring Beth Cole. Kingsley’s production has moved from its early electro house starting point towards heavier bass music, with influences drawn from styles including swing and metal. His later singles include “Pantheon” on Extreme Music in 2019 and “Too Tired to Sleep” on moonshift records in 2020. In 2024, he released “Know Ya” with Beth De Bacci on Extreme Music Library LTD.
