Tyke

London’s rail network was an early canvas for Simeon Vambe, whose graffiti writing gave rise to the name Tyke. Now a drum-and-bass producer and DJ, Vambe first received label backing from Grid Recordings, where Twisted Individual helped develop his sound and taught him about music and production. Early tracks drew support from DJ Hazard, Jumping Jack Frost and Nicky Blackmarket. In 2011, Tyke released The Music Makers EP on Grid Recordings, beginning a run of work that later included Playaz Recordings, Shogun Audio and RAM Records.

Tyke’s work with producer Recipe has stretched across many years. Their track “Music Makers” was selected by Andy C for his Nightlife 5 mix. Tyke later joined Playaz Recordings, releasing the Do It Now EP with contributions from Daddy Earl, Prestige and Cat Knight. Other releases include “Blessing” and “Buzzard”; the latter is among the tracks associated with his work. In 2024, Tyke released the single “Closer” with Prestige on Paradigm Music, followed by “The Feeling (feat. Solo Jane)” on Innerground Records.

Tyke has described his approach as a refusal to be confined to one drum-and-bass style, with his work moving across several forms of the genre. Recipe and singer Dakota Sixx joined him on “Mind Games”. Alongside production, Tyke runs Holographic Audio, which he described as a platform for emerging talent and new sounds; the label released one of Particle’s early tracks. His releases also include work connected with Tamango Records, and he has played at fabric, Electric Brixton, Melkweg, Motion Bristol and Lakota.

In 2025, Tyke released “You Are Real” with JODIAN NATTY on Crate Classics and “Now We'll Do It” with Recipe on Muzik Hertz. His 2026 releases include the EP Changes (Sampler 2) and the single “Changes (Sampler 3)” with Prestige on Playaz Recordings. Tyke also played at Phonox on 4 September 2026, during an event marking 30 years of Playaz.
