Since 1998, Utah Jazz has made drum and bass as the stage name of London producer and DJ Luke Wilson. Early guidance from Alex Reece helped shape his path into the scene, and Wilson later worked with Reece on “Everything Is Everything”. His releases have appeared on Liquid V, Good Looking and Fallen Angels 21. “Runaway” became one of his breakthrough tunes, while his music draws on funk and soul records, atmospheric mid-1990s drum and bass, and jazz-sampling jungle.
Wilson’s debut album, It’s a Jazz Thing, came out on Liquid V in 2008. His third album, Groove Therapy, was released through his own Vintage Recordings. The fifth album, The Music Factory, followed in 2016 on Spearhead Records. Utah Jazz’s sound has also been described as soulful, liquid drum and bass shaped by sampling, with a jazz-inflected character. Across his work, Wilson has maintained ties to labels including Liquid V and Good Looking, as well as developing a release home of his own with Vintage Recordings.
