Wolfgang Valbrun

Wolfgang Valbrun influences include Caribbean music, soul, jazz and hip-hop, and he is now based in Paris. Valbrun is a New York-born singer-songwriter whose career has flourished in Europe, particularly in Paris. Before putting out music under his own name, Valbrun sang with Ephemerals and worked with French producer GUTS. He became known as the lead singer of the British soul and jazz group, and later recorded and toured with GUTS and Kraak & Smaak. With GUTS, Valbrun co-wrote and performed on tracks for the album Stop The Violence. In 2014, he released the single “Easy Ain't Nothin” on Jalapeno Records with Ephemerals.

Valbrun’s first album under his own name, Flawed By Design, was released in 2024. Personal experience and social and political concerns helped shape the record. Its tracks include “Sun Don't Shine,” “Cyclone” and “Keep Your Head Up.” The album was recorded with Thierry Lemaitre, James Graham, Adam Holgate, Damian McLean-Brown, Charlie Fitzgerald, Rhii Williams, Matt Brown and Jai Widdowson. In 2023, Valbrun signed to Jalapeno Records.

Valbrun has described songwriting as a shared process with his band: ideas such as riffs, melodies and phrases are developed together. His releases include the single “Paris” and the EP I’ll Be Your Prey, as well as the single “Falling over You.” He also released the remix single “Shadows (Sam Redmore Remix).” In 2025, Valbrun also released the single “Flawed by Design (Remixes)” on Jalapeno Records.

Other 2025 releases included “Angel Dust (Kyoto Jazz Massive Remix),” a single on Heavenly Sweetness with Brian Jackson, Kyoto Jazz Massive and Ludivine Issambourg, and “Angel Dust (Bluey Remix),” also on Heavenly Sweetness, with Bluey, Brian Jackson and Ludivine Issambourg. In an April 2026 interview, Valbrun said that he and his band were already working on a second album.
