Bachelors of Science are a San Francisco–based drum and bass trio and production outfit. The group consists of Phil "Rene" Collis, Chris Doe and Lukeino Argilla. Formed in 2005, they work primarily in drum and bass, jungle-adjacent rolls and liquid funk, and the three members both produce material and perform as DJs.

Their recorded timeline provides the clearest view of their trajectory. Their debut album Science Fiction appeared in 2008. That was followed by Warehouse Dayz in 2010, The Space Between in 2015 and Within This Moment in 2022. In 2012 they launched their own imprint, CODE Recordings. Public biographical details on early life and specific formative influences are limited; the concrete milestones above map how they moved from early releases into label ownership and full-length records.

Musically, Bachelors of Science are best described by concrete sonic elements found across their catalogue. Their work foregrounds melodic writing: string and pad textures, piano and keyed chord progressions, and vocal snippets layered over drum programming. On tracks such as "Strings Track" (the Apex remix of which won Beatport’s Best Drum & Bass Track in 2009) orchestral string lines and sustained pads sit above precise, edited breakbeats. Bass design tends toward warm, rounded subs and mid-range bass movement rather than extremely distorted neuro bass; that low-end supports melodic hooks rather than dominating the mix.

On the production side they favour tight drum editing and layered percussion: crisp snares, shuffled hi-hat patterns and reconstructed break rolls that keep forward momentum while leaving space for chords and leads. Their arrangements regularly use stacked harmonies and long-form builds, with reverberant atmospheres and measurable dynamic range between verse and drop. Signature elements across releases include lush string arrangements, prominent chord voicings, and a preference for clear, mid-forward mixes that let melodic content cut through club systems and headphones alike.

Career highlights and specific contributions are concrete. Their catalog of full-length records (Science Fiction, Warehouse Dayz, The Space Between, Within This Moment) gives repeated examples of their liquid-funk approach applied across a decade-plus run. The Apex remix of "Strings Track" brought wider recognition when Beatport named it Best Drum & Bass Track in 2009, a notable industry accolade tied to one of their compositions. The launch of CODE Recordings in 2012 marks a formal move into label management and independent release control.

Collaborations and scene ties that are verifiable include the Apex remix connection tied to the Beatport award; beyond that, public records focus on the trio’s own releases and label activity. All three members are credited as producers on their records and they have continued to perform DJ sets using their material alongside other selections.

Across more than a decade and a half of releases, Bachelors of Science have kept a recognisable sound: melodic, string-forward liquid funk with precise drum editing and warm sub-bass. Their discography—Science Fiction (2008), Warehouse Dayz (2010), The Space Between (2015) and Within This Moment (2022)—plus the creation of CODE Recordings in 2012 and the 2009 Beatport award for the Apex remix of "Strings Track," are the concrete markers of their contribution to the style.
