Among the most influential and innovative producers in the now-long history of drum & bass, Calyx has been hacking into the future since deep in the genre’s past.
Now a regular fixture for Critical Music, this latest double single sees the D&B doyen working his distinct high-pressure sonic futurism into a pair of more stripped back, minimal moods.
‘Lemme Take It’ is a bubbling, sub-centric dancefloor weapon that fuses rapid percussion, breathless samples and gently filtered, collapsing bass for the very deadliest of rollers.
‘Before Dawn’ sees Calyx attacking the modern tropes of the D&B sound with his own unmistakable flavour, employing washes of dreamy atmospherics to embellish a rugged hard-stepping track with layers of soul and real depth.
