Kasra established Critical Music in 2002 as an independent drum and bass label, later operating from London. Its roster has included Enei, Halogenix and Emperor, while early releases featured Calibre and Break. In 2003, Calibre’s Rockafella / Barca appeared on the label. Critical Music’s output covers a range of drum and bass styles rather than one subgenre.
Critical Sound events began in 2010, including a residency at fabric and shows at Printworks, Sonar and Boomtown. The label has presented branded club nights and festival stages in locations around the world. It also created Binary as a sub-label for emerging drum and bass artists. Critical Music marked its fifteenth anniversary in 2017 with the compilation 15 Years of Underground Sonics; its office was in Hackney Wick in 2020.
