London-based Kasra began releasing tapes of underground guitar music through a label he started at 15, before turning to drum and bass. His musical roots, he has said, lie in guitar music, punk and hardcore. Before concentrating on his own productions, he built experience as a DJ and label head, alongside work in artist management and marketing. In 2002, he founded Critical Music, a London drum-and-bass label shaped by his own tastes while giving its artists room to explore different styles. His first production was “Babylon”, made with D.Kay.
“Perception” arrived as a single in 2009. He began releasing solo productions as a Critical artist in 2018, after years spent running the label; that year, his first solo EP, Ski Mask, came out. His work has also appeared on 31 Records and Noisia’s Vision imprint. Through Critical, he has put out music by Enei, Mefjus, Ivy Lab, Halogenix and Sam Binga, and the label has helped develop artists including Charli Brix. Goldie has described Kasra as a careful gatekeeper for music beneath drum and bass’s surface.
Kasra collaborated with Serum on an EP and with Particle on the single “Psychoactive / Tinted”. He launched Best Intentions as a separate label. His 2024 album Dream Metal grew from studio sessions and remote exchanges of files; the eight-track release features vocalists and production collaborators. That same year, he worked with Kleu and Resist on the single “No Music On a Dead Planet Sampler 2” for Uncommon Records.
Further releases have included the 2021 single “Do You (Kasra Remix)” with In:Most on Soulvent Records and the 2023 single “Crank (Kasra Remix)” on Vision Recordings. Kasra released “Barfe Baadi” as a single on MANI in 2025. In 2026, “Mood”, a single made with JoSoSick, came out.
