In the early 2000s, Alexey Egorchenkov began exploring drum and bass and making music in St. Petersburg, Russia, under the name Enei. His first record appeared on Dutch label Fokuz in 2007, followed by early releases on Blu Saphir, Cyanide and Citrus. Enei has named Photek, Ed Rush & Optical and Konflict as early influences on his tech-oriented drum-and-bass sound. He also began producing dubstep in 2007, including tracks made with Ka, also known as Implex. His aliases include Giant and The Plain.
Critical Music founder Kasra signed Enei’s first release for the label in 2010, and Enei joined exclusively in 2011. That year, Enei won Best Newcomer Producer at the Drum & Bass Arena Awards. The debut album Machines followed in 2012 and received support from Goldie, Andy C and London Elektricity. Enei’s releases for Critical include the track “Cracker,” the track “One Chance” and the EP Stone Head. The EP Focus On The Love and the album Enei & Kasra are also among his releases for the label.
Kasra became a long-running collaborator, with the pair releasing the EPs Inside the Box and Transmitter. Their collaborative process has involved exchanging ideas and developing tracks together in studio sessions. Enei’s other albums include Rituals, released in 2015, and Humans; the EP Divided Mode came out in 2019. His tracks have received plays from Nu:Tone, Ed Rush, Sabre, DJ Hype and London Elektricity. Enei has also worked with producers from around the world.
In 2025, Enei released his fourth studio album, Countdown, in November. That year also brought the single “Immortal”, released on Neksus Sound with Annix, and the single “The Virus (Enei Remix)” on DnB Allstars with AC13. Enei’s DJ work includes a 2017 mix for BBC Radio 1’s Friction D&B Show. His music remains rooted in drum and bass, with a dark, technical approach described as precision-engineered.
