The Japanese/Australian producer steps onto Critical Music’s artist platform after a 2026 that already took in Shogun, Hospital and Integral.
Fonts is the latest producer through the door at Critical Music’s Binary platform, and Critical Presents: Binary Vol.30 is four tracks of drum & bass from the soulful side. The EP came out on Friday 9 October.
“Patience” and “Crystals” are the dreamy, silky liquid rollers of the set, “Answers” swaps the gloss for grittier, prodding funk, and “Slowdance” sinks into moody jungle-jazz. Different moods, same thing underneath: groove first, and a lot of care in the detail.
It caps a busy year. Fonts put out “Revel” on Shogun Audio in July, followed it nine days later with “Falling” on Hospital Records, and landed “Suspicions” on Integral Records in September. Binary is where Kasra’s label puts the spotlight on new artists, and Vol.30 makes a strong case for this one.
