Dope Plates began in 2016 as a Lossless Music sub-label led by drum and bass producer Soul Intent, also known as Alex Judd. Its drum and bass and jungle draw on 1990s rave and hardcore sounds. Soul Intent’s “Love Me / Rushin’ 91 / Deeper” was the label’s debut release in 2016, with “Love Me” also issued as a single that year. His “Bad Boy” EP followed on 16 August 2016, featuring Acid Lab and Ms Tempz. Later releases include Soul Intent’s album Everything And Nothing (2021) and Black Lotus EP by Dreadmaul and Soul Intent (2023).
Art Jazz of Genaside II designed the label logo. Its various-artists Dope On Plastic series features 1990s-influenced music by established and new artists. Other artists on Dope Plates include Sonar’s Ghost and Surface.
