Soul Intent

Alex Judd began DJing at 15, and arrived at Nottingham Trent University in 2000 before taking main-room bookings at Midlands nights including Detonate, Bassic, Breakthru and Flatliners. By 2005, Judd was producing as Soul Intent and had formed Brutal Recordings with other Nottingham-based DJs and producers, using the name Dataset. Soul Intent’s first solo release came out on Birmingham-based Blindside Recordings. In 2006, “Jus Vibe” received Radio 1 airplay from Mary Ann Hobbs, followed by plays from DJ Flight and Grooverider. Judd’s solo material also received Radio 1 support from Grooverider and Bailey.

Judd launched Lossless Music in 2013 and runs the Nottingham-based label, which has sub-labels Dope Plates, Mooncraft and Exkursions. Soul Intent’s releases have appeared on 31, Randall’s Mac II and Commercial Suicide, while a 2008 single, “Cold Blooded / Break & Enter”, paired Judd with Luca on Samurai Music. Pendulum included “Rebel Music”, released on Mac 2, in its 2010 BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. In 2017, Soul Intent released the debut album Delusions of Grandeur on Lossless Music, as well as the EP Fight The Future.

Dope Plates focuses on drum & bass, jungle and rave influenced by the early 1990s. Soul Intent released the album Everything and Nothing on the sub-label in 2021; it features “Need Your Love” with Acid Lab and “Second Life” with Awacs. A 2023 single, “Black Lotus EP”, also paired Soul Intent with Dreadmaul on Dope Plates. Judd also produces as Odyssia, making music at 140 BPM under that alias. The album Atmospherics, released on Exkursions in 2024, drew inspiration from composers including Max Richter and Ólafur Arnalds; Judd aimed to shape it as a connected listening experience.

Soul Intent has performed at Fabric in the UK, Sun & Bass in Sardinia and Star Warz in Belgium. In 2024, Soul Intent released the single “Harmony Of Collective Murder (Soul Intent Remix)” on AGN7 Audio, followed by the 2025 single “Niceness” on Lossless Music. Judd played at Corsica Studios in September 2025 and at Planet Wax in February 2025. The 2026 single “Inside Yourself EP” came out on Mooncraft.
