Dread Recordings is a British jungle and drum and bass label that Ray Keith founded in 1994. Early releases included “Yes Yes '95” by Babylon 5 and “Nina's Rinse” by Armageddon, both issued in 1995. The label put out Keith’s “Classified” as a five-record vinyl set in 1998, then as a two-CD album in 1999; his albums Classified and Vintage Dread followed on the label in 1999 and 2000. Dread Recordings also released Bladerunner’s “Jungle Jungle.”
Brockie, Dillinja and Bladerunner are among the artists associated with the label, alongside Serum and Digital. Its releases include Serum’s Serum on Dread, Pt. 1 (2011) and Digital’s Steady Eddie EP (2016). Ray Keith established the Penny Black, UFO and Dub Plate Dread imprints, while Dub Rock is another sub-label. Dread Recordings held nights and residencies at Cafe 1001, Bussey Building in Peckham and the Rhythm Factory. The label marked its twentieth anniversary in 2014 with a celebration in Vauxhall, London. It went bust during the recession and moved out of its offices and studios.
