In 2004, Ray Keith signed Bladerunner, the drum-and-bass and jungle name of Devan Gray, to Dread Recordings after spotting his talent. Based in East Anglia, Gray has also been described as a London-based artist, and has been active since 2006. His early work for Dread included remixes of jungle tracks such as “Renegade Terrorist”, “The Chopper” and “Dark Soldier”. Ray Keith was a key influence on Gray’s development, alongside early jungle producers DJ SS, Roni Size, DJ Die and Dillinja. Gray has named that early jungle era as an inspiration for his music.
Bladerunner’s releases have appeared on Dread, Critical, RAM and Philly Blunt, as well as V Recordings and Hi Resolution. In 2009, Gray made the single Just a Beat / Chalice with Serum for Pure Vibez Recordings. His releases include “Feel for You” and “Back to the Jungle”; the latter, alongside “Snake Fist”, topped the BBC Radio 1 Drum & Bass charts. Remix credits include DJ SS’s “Black” and “The Lighter”, Ray Keith’s “Chopper”, and Gappa G’s “Information Centre”. The range of tracks he has reworked also includes material by EZ Rollers and Omni Trio.
Gray has worked with Serum for several years, collaborating on tracks and developing their sound together; he has said they share a musical vision shaped by early jungle. The two are members of Kings of the Rollers with Voltage. In 2014, Bladerunner recorded Kmag Podcast #52 ft. Bladerunner. His DJ activity has included appearances at fabric and Motion Bristol, while London and Bristol are among the regions where he has been played most. In 2025, he released the single “Musical Murda” on Pure Jungle.
In 2026, Bladerunner released the single “21st Century” on Hospital Records and “Similarity” with Riya on V Recordings. “In Your Eyes”, a single with Exile and Jess Robyn, came out on Hi Resolution. Gray also made the single “Switch (Bladerunner Remix)” with DJ Rap for Propa Talent. These releases came after a long run of work for drum-and-bass and jungle labels, including the 2004 signing to Dread Recordings. Each of the 2026 releases named here was issued by a different label, with Riya, Exile, Jess Robyn and DJ Rap credited as collaborators.
