Lobster Theremin was founded in London in 2013 by Jimmy Asquith, who still runs the label. It grew out of his friendship with Palms Trax, whose Equation EP became the first release in September 2013.
The label’s output spans house, techno and electro, with breakbeat, jungle and drum and bass strands. Its early releases were split between a black-label series for harder techno and a white-label series for house and older sounds, and it launched a distribution service in 2014. In 2015 it set up its first sub-label, Mörk, followed by Distant Hawaii, which opened with Hidden Spheres’ Waiting.
On the jungle and drum and bass side, Tim Reaper’s four-track Cityscapes EP came out in 2020, as did Coco Bryce’s “Ma Bae Be Luv”. Coco Bryce returned in 2022 with “Slightly Involved Vol. 1”, made with Amy Dabbs.
