MTA Records began in London in 2009, established by Chase & Status and named after their 2008 album More Than Alot. The independent label covered drum and bass, dubstep, rap and soul. Its debut, a dubstep release, featured tracks by Cotti and 501. Nero became its first exclusive signing, with the paired tracks Innocence and Electron released in 2009. The founders’ stated intention was to put artists first and help them develop, offering the kind of label support they had wanted themselves.
Music by Nero, Dimension, 1991 and Mob Tactics appeared on the label. Mob Tactics’ single The Answer was released in 2014, the same year MTA Records issued MTA 5, a 30-track compilation showcasing artists across several genres. Dimension’s single Whip Slap ll followed in 2018. In 2015, MTA Records won BBC Radio 1Xtra’s Best of British Soundclash. Its releases have also charted in the United Kingdom.
