Prototype Recordings is the drum and bass label Grooverider launched in 1993, first as an outlet for his own Codename John tracks. It became known for the technical, futuristic side of drum and bass, releasing music by Ed Rush & Optical, Dillinja, Boymerang and Matrix, and DJ Trace’s “Sonar / Sphere” came out on it in 1998.
Since the label’s relaunch, Drumsound & Bassline Smith’s “The Odyssey VIP” has appeared in 2017, Modified Motion & Faction’s “Run It / Surge” in March 2018 and Furniss’s “Polizia” and “Forbidden” on 26 July 2019. Covert Garden’s “Nightcrawlers” and “People” followed on 25 July 2025, and Dunk’s “Gangster Wobbles / Roll Down” in 2026. HEXA and Nick The Lot have also released music on Prototype.
