Drumsound & Bassline Smith

Drumsound & Bassline Smith is a British drum-and-bass trio comprising Andy Wright, Benjamin Wiggett and Simon “Bassline” Smith. They formed in Derby in 1998 after meeting at the Technique club night, where their shared involvement led to studio work. Wright and Wiggett perform as Drumsound, with Simon Smith completing the group as Bassline Smith. They founded Technique Recordings to release their collaborative music, and their 2002 single Stigmata / Time came out on the label.

The group’s first studio album, Nature of the Beast, arrived on Technique Recordings in 2004. That year, The Odyssey was released on Prototype Recordings and helped establish the trio as artists. They also released music through Prototype Records, New State Music, Worldwide Audio Recordings and Urban. Other labels they released music on include Good Looking Records, V Recordings, Renegade Hardware and Formation Records. In 2011, their remix of DJ Fresh’s single Louder reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. The following year, their collaboration with Utah Saints, What Can You Do for Me, reached number 28 on the UK chart.

In 2013, the trio released Wall of Sound, featuring vocal contributions from Youngman, Ayah Marar, Tom Cane, DRS, Sam Frank and Fleur. Their album Wardance followed in 2017. In 2019, Technique Recordings marked its twentieth anniversary. In 2023, the group released Meat Cake with Sonny Wharton and Superstyle Deluxe on The Payback Project, as well as Outlaw (Drumsound & Bassline Smith Remix) with Levela on LVL Music.

In 2024, the group played Ministry Of Sound. Their 2025 single Last Night came out on New State Entertainment, and their 2026 appearances included Beat Herder Festival at The Ribble Valley. In 2026, they released Snapshot (Drumsound & Bassline Smith Remix) with Roni Size on Full Cycle and Flip It (Again) on Karma London Records. Their first Resident Advisor event was in 2011. The group also recorded an Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 in 2012.
