Urban Takeover is a London jungle and drum and bass label run by Micky Finn and DJ Aphrodite, who also ran Urban Shakedown together. Micky Finn has said the label grew out of a studio session, and its sound leaned on hip-hop-flavoured jump up made for the dancefloor.
Aphrodite and Urban Shakedown’s Some Justice dates from 1992, and Micky Finn and Aphrodite followed with Bad Ass! in 1996, the same year as Hype the Funk by E.P.S. & 2-Vibe featuring DJ Mark. The label’s remix of the Jungle Brothers’ Jungle Brother (True Blue) appeared on a European 12-inch in 1997. In 1998 came Bad Ass Remixes 1998 and The Untouchables’ At the Count of 3 / Hit It, and Muffler’s Somber / Fury followed in 2000. Mulder and the Canadian act Vinyl Syndicate have also released on Urban Takeover.
