Utopia Music is a Bristol-based drum and bass label founded in 2009 by the DJ and producer Mako. He set it up to give his family’s recordings a label identity, to release his own music and to issue work by artists with a similar style and approach. Its output leans towards atmospheric and deep drum and bass, with releases by Mako, Hydro, Villem and Submarine. Mako sums up its message as revolutionary without being radical, heard without being loud, and influential without being confrontational.
Hydro’s LP Lateral Thinking was released by Utopia Music in 2019, and the label issued HLZ’s single Black Core / Arcane in 2024. Its releases come from a fairly small group of producers who often collaborate with one another. Utopia Music also hosts events and showcases in locations around the world.
