I liked the sampler for the new (and first) albumBlack Sun Empire - , released on their own label.on the first side is a high-quality, fast technoid track. Nothing extraordinary, but everything is in its place and it is pleasant to listen to.of their well-knowntogether withConcord Dawn is another excellent techno monster. A powerful bass-and-synth onslaught, fast amens, techno sounds, and well-executed breakdowns. We had not heard anything from them for a long time, and now this is a successful comeback.
Black Sun Empireand now this is a successful comeback. The album itself is even more interesting. Everything follows the best traditions of the Dutch trio: powerful techno-trance onslaughts, epic synth themes, incessant bass pressure, and energetic amen breaks. The first half is more trance-oriented and less striking. From the second half of the album onward, the sound becomes more technoid and gains drive. The collaboration withStufromCause 4 Concernon the track is a hot blend of the epic quality ofBSEwith the refined technical precision of the sound ofC4Cand a strong funky attitude. Still, it could not be thatoneOptivwas responsible for the signature sound of the renowned quartet. Another excellent techy track iswith rich and “live” percussion, good drops, and strained electronic instruments in the background. Kemal’s remix ofsoftened the well-known tune and gave it a neat orchestral atmosphere: warm, soft synth sounds in the spirit of Matrix, lighter drums with plenty of percussion, although Kemal’s signature sound is not really felt here. features powerful amen breaks, strained onslaughts, vocal cuts fromMC Jakesand other attributes ofTechnical Itch. It strongly recalls the latter’s style, while not copying it. Otherwise, everything is as expected fromBlack Sun Empire— a solid piece of work with several hits and a bunch of simply good dancefloor material. Although many of the tracks are somewhat lacking in cohesion—the themes and ideas used are excellent, but the transitions within the compositions are not very well connected.
