Back then I thought drum & bass could be a bit serious and I wanted to bring some fun back. I'd been spending a lot of time in the States and Japan and it all fed into the album. Neo-soul, inspired by the J-pop producers I met out there. Synthwave, future bass, liquid, jump up and two ballads. One track even started as a storyboard for a western.
Most of it came together in six to eight months and I was having so much fun. I still chase that feeling in the studio. It's been harder to find since! Looking back, some of that range was ego. I wanted to show what I could do. I hadn't worked out what mattered to me as an artist yet.
Working that out has been a big part of the last ten years. It's taken the music somewhere heavier and more serious - the exact thing this album was reacting against. Turns out that's the artist I wanted to become. I just had to make this one first.
I still love so much about this record. Thank you for listening, then and now.
