On 5 March, The World of Drum & Bass will host the first Russian performance of this live project: Killa Kela (of Spit Kingdom), DJ Skeletrik, MC Trip and their own sound engineer, Mike Parker. Together they create an unforgettable show, carrying the audience away into the world of hip-hop, ragga, breaks, and drum and bass. London magazine Time Out named them the best live show of 2003. Throughout the past year, they performed constantly, completed two of their own European tours, and toured with such stars as Busta Rhymes, The Neptunes & N*E*R*D, Redman, The Streets and Public Enemy.
The heart and soul of the team is Kela. He is 24 years old, and in the show he serves as a beatboxer, although he prefers to call himself a multi-vocalist. Beatboxing has long been an integral part of hip-hop; it is the art of creating special sounds with the mouth. Kela began doing it at the age of 16, but he does not consider the ability to produce more than 25 sounds on a single exhalation the most important part of the profession. Much more important is being able to sense the audience’s mood and desires! For the sake of his passion, he makes enormous sacrifices: he does not drink or smoke and is terrified of catching a cold, but he could not pass up a trip to Russia, even in the middle of winter. His further plans include spreading beatboxing beyond hip-hop music.
MC Trip is the project’s inspiration. He is the team’s biggest workaholic. Trip’s main strength is that he knows when to keep quiet and give the music space. Which, believe me, is a great rarity for an MC!
Kela owes many of the show’s successes to his sound engineer, Mike Parker.
And the DJ duties in the show are handled by DJ Skeletrik, who will headline the hip-hop dancefloor at the Yubileyny Sports Palace.
