Jon Gooch (aka Spor), despite being only 20 years old, is a full-fledged member of . Just two years ago, Jon did not even know what drum and bass was. “I have two friends who introduced me to IDM, in particular Squarepusher,” Jon explains. “That was when I really became interested in everything. I had software that I learned to work with and use to create small rhythms, although I had no production skills.”
Jon began seriously thinking about production when he met his schoolmate Codex’s, who worked for the label. “One day I brought a CD-R with my material. It was terrible, but there were some interesting moments, and Codex took notice of me. From that moment on, we began working on my music and there was progress,” Jon recalls. After two successful releases on , and a single on – Spor was taken under the wing of the mighty .
Spor’s career took off after several releases on . In his opinion, with so many labels and artists, the surest way to rise is to build your own name. “The whole process becomes much more interesting when you are connected to this music as a real artist, rather than as an ordinary person whose music is simply taken by a label and who is left with nothing. For me, TOV Family as a whole is a real reward,” says Jon.
After releases on labels such as , and , Spor made a name for himself. Without much effort, his dark, brutal vibe becomes more refined with every release.
Chris from helped Jon a great deal. He believes it is good to have someone at the label with whom you can share your ideas. Jon is currently working on a solo EP for , which will be released next year.
Spor is a young, promising DJ and musician who has found a good way to promote his music.
“I realized how unpredictable the scene can be, so I am sure that I will keep my head above the clouds and concentrate on what is happening at the moment,” says Jon.
