EPROM is the artist name of producer and DJ Alexander Dennis, who began making music at 13 and studied film and digital media at UC Santa Cruz. After graduating, Dennis worked in graphic and web design. His early releases included the single Humanoid and the EP Pipe Dream on Rwina Records, as well as the 2007 single 64 Bytes on Addictech Records. His work spans bass music, dubstep and experimental electronic styles. EPROM’s first recorded event took place in 2008. He is from San Francisco. Dennis has said that video games and the limitations of their audio hardware have influenced his sound.
EPROM released the album Metahuman in 2012 and followed it with Halflife in 2013. His music has appeared on Warp, Surefire Sound, Dirtybird, Deadbeats and 1985 Music. His collaborations include work with Flume and Bleep Bloop, as well as a series of projects with G Jones: the EPs Acid Disk and Acid Disk 2. Deadbeats released his EP AIKON in 2019. In 2023, he released Syntheism, which he described as his first solo album in ten years; it explores an experimental mix of electronic styles.
With producer Alix Perez, EPROM forms the duo Shades. Deadbeats released their first full-length album, In Praise of Darkness. In 2024, EPROM released the single The Search on The Tabula Rasa Record Company.
