In 2005, Dmitry Goncharenko began making music with his twin brother Alexey, with Dmitry performing as Gancher and the pair working together as Gancher & Ruin. The Russian brothers are based in Saint Petersburg and began producing at 15, then took up DJing at 16. Gancher’s early production drew on hip-hop and breakbeat before he moved towards drum and bass, including techstep and neurofunk. As Gancher & Ruin, the brothers produce drum and bass spanning neurofunk and crossbreed. Gancher signed for releases with Wayside Recordings in 2008.
Gancher’s track “First Cosmic” appeared in 2009 on a Future Sickness Records release shared with Lucio De Rimanez. His 2010 release Red Star EP came out on Culture Assault Records. In 2011, he released Dextems on Future Sickness Records and My Angel on Audio Boutique with Bionic K and Ruin. Gancher & Ruin went on to release music through Position Chrome, Mindocracy, Yellow Stripe, Future Sickness and Enzyme, as well as Eatbrain and their own NMA imprint. The duo worked with Mumblz, Lethal and Triamer. Their EP The Chase came out on Eatbrain.
Gancher released Open Source EP on Melting Pot Records with Loop Step Walker in 2013. In 2015, Abused Recordingz Digi 002 came out on Abused Recordingz Digi, followed by The Formula on Tainted Audio with AK-Industry, Ruin and Strobcore. In 2019, Gancher & Ruin released the EP Interceptor on NMA. The EP contains the track “Boost”, written and performed by Alexey and Dmitry Goncharenko. The brothers also wrote and performed “Kickback” and “Roswell” on the release Kickback. Their albums include The Atmosphere of Destruction (2013) and Shockwave (2023), alongside Arsenal LP. The duo also collaborated with Scandroid and 3FORCE on a remix of “Abyss”.
