In the mid-1990s, Ink began making a name in drum and bass as part of North London crew The Architex, alongside J Dub and Kwest. Before moving into production, Ink worked as an MC; early DJ sets came on pirate radio stations around London. Club residencies followed, including Fabio’s Speed sessions and Metalheadz’s Blue Note nights. Ink also became associated with Renegade Hardware, one of several labels connected to the producer’s work. Drum and bass and jungle are both associated with Ink’s music, and Ink has worked as a producer and DJ across nearly three decades.
Ink founded Architecture Recordings in 1997, establishing an imprint for personal releases and music by other artists. Its artists have included Kemal, Stranjah and Gremlinz. Ink’s releases have also appeared on Basement Records, Metalheadz and Renegade Hardware, with the track The 50th (Blueprint) and the track Altitude among the Basement Records work. Metalheadz released the track Shine, while Renegade Hardware put out the Kaos Theory EP. Ink’s albums include Incision and Can You Draw Sound for Architecture Recordings, Hard Soul with Perpetuum for Colours Audio, and The Last Scroll for Renegade Hardware.
Long-running partnerships have linked Ink with fellow North London producer Loxy and Finnish producer Resound. Ink and Loxy released the Quasimodo EP in 2000 and the Twisted 3rd Mind EP in 2002. Their later work includes the Manifested Visions EP for R&S Records, as well as releases with Gremlinz for Dispatch Recordings’ Blueprint series. Ink’s collaboration with Resound also reached Metalheadz and I.L.R. Studios. The partnership with Loxy has continued across later releases, including the 2022 single Spray Trains Of Thought on R&S Records.
In 2022, Ink also released the single Irrelevant on Metalheadz with Loxy and Resound, and the single Stop Motion (Loomis Remix) on I.L.R. Studios with Loomis, Loxy and Resound. The single Shades of Red, made with Resound, came out on Architecture Recordings in 2023. Ink’s 2024 single Sabretooth (DJ Chef & Danny Anger Remix), with Danny Anger and Loxy, appeared on Renegade Hardware.
