From Swindon, James Claydon-Smith began making beats as a teenager before taking the name Jamezy as a drum-and-bass producer and DJ. He started producing at 14, first working on drill, hip-hop and rap beats. His older brother introduced him to drum and bass and jungle, while Chase & Status’s “Blk & Blu” helped spark his interest in the genre. Jamezy began producing drum and bass in 2019. He signed his first record to DnB Allstars at 17. The label picked up “Mind Control”, which became his breakthrough release and the title track of his debut EP. That EP went on to pass one million Spotify streams.
DnB Allstars also released Jamezy’s EP Mixed Emotions in 2021, followed by Let Me Know and Transparent in 2022. His track “Mi Familia” came out through DnB Allstars Records in 2022, was showcased by Radio 1 DJ Charlie Tee and received more than 750,000 streams. His collaborations include “Killamanjaro” with MC Scrufizzer, while vocalist Ruth Royall, J Mulla and Eksman are among the other vocalists he has worked with. Jamezy also joined MCs Grima and Azza and Devilman for “World Cup Riddim”, described as a departure from his melodic style.
Outside those collaborations, Jamezy worked with Local on “Have A Look” and TomInTheChamber on “Fresh Start”. He released the track “Energy” through Jamezy Music, and collaborated with Dreps on the album It’s All Mad, released on 25 September 2026. His 2020 single Discoveries came out on Jamezyuk. He released UAV EP through Low Down Deep Recordings. BassLayerz Recordings issued Sekkle Down / Flashbang, and Bassrush Records released Calling My Line with Tian.
