Formed in Bristol in 2008, KOAN Sound is the production duo of Will Weeks and Jim Bastow. The pair first drew attention with dubstep releases before expanding into glitch-hop, drum and bass and music with organic and cinematic elements. Early releases include the Funk Blaster EP on OWSLA and the Sanctuary EP, made with Asa and released through OWSLA and Inspected Records. The duo also put out the 2015 Forgotten Myths EP through Shoshin and Open Outlets.
The album Polychrome followed in 2018, with the Intervals Above EP arriving in 2019. In 2023, KOAN Sound released the album Led by Ancient Light, then issued the Evocation EP in 2024. The duo has also frequently collaborated with Asa and Kursa, who perform together as Vexisle. After Jim Bastow moved to Canada, Weeks and Bastow worked remotely, passing projects between them across time zones. Their 2026 single Moments of Opening came out on Shoshin.
