Billain

Billain is the stage name of Adis Kutkut, who began making music in 1997–98 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Techno was his starting point before he moved into drum and bass, and in 2000 he joined Sarajevo collective Kontra. He works as a producer, DJ and sound designer, and his music is associated with neurofunk. Billain has described his approach as cinematic drum and bass and discussed developing a style he calls “cyberneuro.” He has also spoken about drawing on science-fiction storytelling, with releases connected to a larger narrative.

His early drum and bass releases came out on Breed 12 Inches and C2D, followed by releases for Syndrome Audio, Citrus and Rise Audio. Among the labels that have released his music are Bad Taste Recordings, Critical Music and Vision Recordings. In 2010, he made the Broken Universe EP with Future Signal and released the single Glome / The Solution on Fatality Recordings. Later collaborations included InsideInfo, Codex, Allied and Rawtekk. His EP Colossus came out on Bad Taste Recordings, while Colonize was released in 2015.

Billain has worked with Bosnian rappers Frenkie and Edo Maajka, including on the EP #DNA with Frenkie. His sound-design work has extended to film, including Pacific Rim Uprising and Hunter Killer, and he created the soundtrack for the game Scorn. He has also done sound design for Q Department in New York on films, documentaries and advertising. In 2014, he collaborated with composer Sloven Anzulović on sound design and music for the reopening ceremony of the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Billain also releases music as Aethek.

His albums include Nomad’s Revenge (2019) and Lands Unbreached (2022), both released on Renraku Global Media. The EP Different Eyes followed in 2023. In 2025, Billain released the album Mirror and the singles Boomba on Vision Recordings, Dystopia with Rawtekk on Evolution Chamber, and Shinigami VIP with Burr Oak on Blackout Music NL.
