Krafty Kuts is the performance name of Martin Reeves, a DJ and electronic music producer based in Brighton. In the early 1990s, Reeves began practising on turntables after discovering DJing through a breakdance club. He has named hip-hop turntablists Grandmaster Flash and Cash Money among his early influences. His early releases included the 1998 EP Funky Elements on FSUK. Before that period, he won a DJ competition at age 12, and the win helped spark his interest in DJing in the late 1980s. Reeves later opened his own record shop and developed a style combining hip hop and funk with uptempo beats. His music is also associated with breakbeat, house and other electronic styles.
Reeves collaborated with fellow DJ and producer A.Skillz on the album Tricka Technology, released before his 2006 album Freakshow. The latter came out on Against the Grain, a label Reeves co-founded with Lloyd Seymour, also known as Skool of Thought. Reeves has described the label as a joint venture with Lloyd. His releases have also appeared on Ministry of Sound, OWSLA, Southern Fried and DMC, among other labels. The collaboration with A.Skillz also produced the track “Roll Over Baby.” On Freakshow, guest artists included Tim Deluxe and Ashley Slater. Reeves mixed FabricLive 34.
Reeves collaborated with Dynamite MC on the album All 4 Corners and with Chali 2na on Adventures of a Reluctant Superhero. He has praised Dynamite MC work in the studio and onstage. Reeves also co-founded the club night Supercharged with Lloyd Seymour and launched Instant Vibes as a solo label venture, describing it as a way to retain creative control over the music. His 2026 releases include the album Turbulence on Against the Grain and the single “We Just Got Started” with Winston Surfshirt. His album Let’s Ride followed in 2012, with Reeves describing its sound through funk, soul, disco, jazz, electro and breakbeat. “Feel Like Jumpin’” was released from the album. Another 2026 single, “Comfort Zone,” features Jevon Ives and PAV4N, while “Funktopus” appeared on Westwood Recordings.
