Born in 1976, Ian Jordan is the UK drum-and-bass DJ and producer known as Majistrate, based in Kent. He began DJing in 1989 and moved into production in 1994, the year his first 12-inch, Open Circuit, appeared on Splash Recordings. An associate at a pirate radio station helped Jordan find his first production opportunity, which led to his connection with Splash and its sister label, Juice Recordings. Early DJ influences included Jeff Mills, Joey Beltram, Dave Angel and CJ Bolland; as a producer, he looked up to Dillinja, Rob Playford, Danny Breaks and Shut Up & Dance.
Majistrate later put out music on East Side, Lucky Spin, Brain, Urban Takeover, Frequency and Frontline. His studio work with DJ Nicol included the 2004 single Clone Zero / Facelift on RAM Records. He also teamed up with A-Sides under the name Fate. Jordan created Sweet Tooth Recordings to put out more of his own productions and give a platform to newer artists whose music he liked. In 2014, the album Twenty marked 20 years of his production work; Jordan said it contained 20 tracks.
His later releases include the single Everywhere I Go / Scarface with Logan D on Low Down Deep Recordings. On Low Down Deep Recordings, Majistrate also released the single Step Up and, with Infrared and Logan D, Jungle Terror. His Crucast work with Primate and Ekstatic includes Back In Time. The single Land Of The Freedom (Majistrate Remix), made with Vital, came out on Iron Fist Audio in 2023.
In 2025, Majistrate released the single Lost Mi Head with Basslayerz on MHITR (My Home Is The Rave). His 2026 releases include the Crucast single Do This with Weejii, the Sweet Tooth Recordings single Pressure Remix with Amplify and Master Error, and Step Up 2026 on Low Down Deep Recordings. In September 2026, he played at Fire and Eutopia Whs, followed by Lakota in October.
