Devilman, whose real name is Mikel Edwards, is a Birmingham-born English grime MC who began writing and performing bars with friends at school. Active for more than 20 years, he started out in the Vortex crew before joining Dark Elements. Alongside Deadly and Mayhem, he was among the first grime artists from Birmingham to appear on BBC 1Xtra and among the first grime MCs from outside London. His career has included co-running SIKA Records, and he has said he has remained independent with his team.
A 2006 clash with Skepta on Lord of the Mics brought Devilman wider recognition after Skepta invited him to take part. Edwards has described the clash as rooted in mutual musical respect, while the encounter became associated with a long-running dispute between the two MCs. Devilman is known for deliberately provocative lyrics and an idiosyncratic style. His albums include Devilman's Diary, released on SIKA Records in 2012, and Devilman's State of Mind, released in 2014.
Devilman released Future Proof in 2021. His collaborations include “Balling (Edit)” with Songer, Mr Traumatik and Oneda, and “World Cup Riddim” with Grima x Azza, Local, Tommy B and NV 33. As a DJ, he has played Lakota, Volks and The Scala, among other clubs.
In 2025, Devilman played Lab11. In 2026, he appeared at Lakota and Forum Birmingham, and released “Funeral Directors” with Higher Sector, “ART OF WAR - Temple Remix” with Mr Traumatik and Temple, and “VOTS Sessions (Elro & Devilman)” with Elro, Kenny Allstar and Lupole. His other 2026 singles include “WHIZZAP” with DixonBeats, Emporio and MyNamesError, and “Too Attractive”.
