Harry Shotta grew up in Gravesend, Kent, writing and performing hip-hop from a young age. Influenced by 1990s hip-hop, he listened to Big Pun, Nas and Mobb Deep. After performing at Notting Hill Carnival in 2008, he shifted his focus toward drum and bass, with MC Funsta invitation helping lead him into the scene. Known for rapid-fire, double-time flows, he has worked across drum and bass, hip-hop, grime and jungle, collaborating with MC Funsta and the late MC Skibadee. Shotta has also named MC Skibadee and Shabba as influences who helped draw him into drum and bass. He joined the drum and bass group SaSaSaS and worked with Skibadee as part of the group.
Shotta built recognition through a 52-week run on DJ Semtex’s BBC Radio 1Xtra show, writing a rap response to the news each week. In 2017, his single “Animal” set a Guinness World Record for the most words in a single. He released the Twelve Months mixtape through SBTV and performed a Fire in the Booth session with Charlie Sloth on Radio 1. His music has appeared through RAM Records, Hospital Records, Shogun Audio and Viper Recordings. The Harry Shotta Show brought him together with DJ Phantasy and Fatez.
After joining High Focus Records, Shotta released “It Wasn’t Easy”, produced by Leaf Dog, in January 2025. His 21-track album Odyssey, released that year, marked a return to hip-hop and includes “Overthinking”, produced by Forest DLG. He has also released music with Blean on Interstellar Audio and performed internationally. His Glowing EP, made with Blean, came out on Interstellar Audio.
