Alcemist is the stage name of Theo, a drum-and-bass producer and DJ from South East London whose music draws on UK garage, house, techno, grime and UK drill. His first release under the name came in 2019, with the shared EP Into the Dark, made with Parallel. His releases have appeared on Incurzion Audio, DnB Allstars, Born On Road, Dread Recordings and Atlantic Records, and he is also a label owner. Baser in London, he has played in Bristol, Manchester and Riga. His first event recorded on Resident Advisor was in 2019, and South + East is another region where he has played often.
In 2020, Alcemist released the EP Gone through DnB Allstars. Its tracks include “Don’t You” and “Crisp,” with EJ Kitto and Repow featuring on the last. He later worked with Coco on the single “Stan Smith” and the 2023 release “Stan Smith (Garage VIP).” That year, his drum-and-bass rework of “Would You…?” with Campbell reached the UK Top 30. The release was also credited with Caity Baser. The single’s full title was “Would You (go to bed with me?),” and it paired Campbell and Caity Baser.
In 2024, Alcemist released a remix of Becky Hill’s “Never Be Alone” and “Curtain Call,” a collaboration with ARTAN issued through DnB Allstars. His other collaborations include releases with Local and Mila Falls. Polydor Records released the “Never Be Alone (Alcemist Remix)” with Becky Hill.
In 2026, Alcemist released “Search Deep” on Shogun Audio, “SF Cypher 34” with Devilman, Harry Shotta and STEEZE FACTORY, and “STEPPAZ” with JayT MISC, issued through Temperature Productions. His DJ appearances that year included NFF Club and Suburbia in September, followed by Havana Chichester in October. Producer Jamezy has named Alcemist as an early inspiration, saying his sound helped move on from the heavy foghorn and roller period.
