London-based DJ and producer Mampi Swift, born Philip Anim, began DJing in 1990 and learned production while working at Lucky Spin records. In 1992, Swift played a first set at Innersense, held at the Lazerdrome on New Year’s Eve. That year also brought a first appearance on Kool FM, as a guest on The Weedkillers’ show; Swift later took over the programme hosted by childhood friend DJ Buz’s. MC Navigator, Crazy Legs and MC Foxy started calling the DJ “Mampi” after one of the Kool FM shows. Before launching a label, Swift released music through Suburban Base, True Playaz, Trouble On Vinyl, Frontline and Soul Power.
The 1996 single On the Beat / Little Touch came out on Suburban Base, followed in 1999 by the True Playaz single Reload / Space. In 1997, Anim founded Charge Recordings, establishing a label of his own after releasing tracks elsewhere. Swift also established the Blade label. Notable tracks include “The One”, “Hi Tek”, “Touch Of J”, “Jaws” and “Trippin”. His releases include the album Music Forever and the EP I Rise EP. Swift’s DJing has also been associated with the double-drop style, alongside Andy C.
A single, Higher, arrived on Drum&BassArena in 2014. Swift’s later releases on Charge Recordings include the 2023 singles One Thing and WOMP. Swift has described the people attending shows, and telling him what his music meant to them, as an inspiration for returning to drum and bass.
Swift played at Basing House in February 2026, followed by appearances at The Crypt in April and UNLOCKED later that month. June brought a performance at The Cause, with further dates at Riverside East in August and Eutopia Whs in September. On 3 October 2026, Swift played at The Clock Factory.
