Formed in Bristol in 1996, Roni Size & Reprazent brought together a group led by Bristol-born producer and DJ Roni Size, also known as Ryan Williams. The original line-up combined Full Cycle producers Roni Size, Krust, DJ Die and DJ Suv with vocalists Onallee and Dynamite MC, bassist Si John and drummer Clive Deamer. The group grew from close friends and musicians with shared ideas, with Roni Size bringing their contributions together. Its label affiliations included Talkin’ Loud, Mercury and Universal.
Reprazent released its second studio album, In the Mode, in 2000 on Talkin’ Loud. The record featured Method Man and Zack de la Rocha, with Rahzel also among its guests. Roni Size said the group developed its live performance by gradually replacing backing tracks with material played on stage. In 2015, Reprazent performed with composer William Goodchild and the Emerald Ensemble at Bristol’s Colston Hall; a recording of the performance came out as a live album.
