Formed in 1997, Sci-Clone brings together drum-and-bass producer A-Sides, the alias of Jason Cambridge, and New Zealand jazz musician Nathan Haines. The collaboration grew from a London–Auckland connection and a friendship of more than 25 years. Their production pairs A-Sides’ beats and bass with Haines’ melodic and harmonic contributions, combining drum-and-bass production with jazz influences. The project released music on Metalheadz and Reinforced, including three records for Metalheadz between 1997 and 1999. The single O.D. appeared in 1997, followed by the single Red Fever/Everywhere I Go in 1999.
The duo returned with the single Hold On / Lucid in 2020. In 2023, Metalheadz released Sci-Clone’s album Radio Therapy - Pt. 1, part of a two-part album project containing 17 tracks. That year also brought the singles The Girl in Blue and Upper Harbour Highway. Haines’ work in the project draws on his background as a jazz musician and saxophonist, while Cambridge brings his experience as A-Sides, a drum-and-bass producer.
