Shadow Sect began in 2013 when Giulio Ascoli and Cristian Pavese came together as a drum and bass duo. The pair met while organising the Italian chapter of Therapy Session, and turned to Shadow Sect as a shared project. Ascoli had previously performed as WPL; Pavese had used the names DOM and The Anunnaki. In 2017, they made Shadow Sect their full focus.
The duo’s sound brings neurofunk and hard drum and bass together with influences from hardcore, metal and experimental electronic music. Their releases have appeared on PRSPCT Recordings, EatBrain, FutureSickness, Close2Death Recordings, Hanzom Music and Big Riddim Recordings, as well as Othercide. In 2018, they released the single Monsta/Fake on Close 2 Death.
Collaborations include the track “Genesis” with Mizo, released on EatBrain Records, and “STFU” with Dope D.O.D., which came out on PRSPCT in late 2020. Their 2025 single “Turn It Up” appeared on Shadow Sect Music.
