From Oregon’s high deserts, SPL is the stage name of producer Sam Pool, who grew up in the state and works across drum and bass and dubstep. Alongside production, Pool is a DJ associated with drum and bass, and later described a direction in his music as “Balearic Bass”. SPL launched Lost Soul Recordings in 2006, the year the label issued the single Denied / Nihil. Pool also founded Hollow Point Records, established in 2009, and has released music through Freak Recordings. His drum-and-bass releases have also appeared on Barcode, Tech Itch and Evol Intent.
SPL worked with Limewax and the Tech Freak family on drum and bass in the studio and behind the decks. In 2014, the single Motion Sickness (SPL Remix) / Fade came out on Position Chrome. The following year brought the single Back Again / Bristol Transmission on Rhythm & Chaos and The Vision on Hollow Point Recordings. SPL also released Mad Dog on Buygore with Complete and Styles in 2015.
