In Oradea, Romania, Sub:liminal began learning guitar at a young age before developing an interest in drum & bass around 2008. The artist is Alex Cobe, a producer and DJ who started DJing in 2014, playing at local parties with a focus on soulful liquid sounds. After years behind the decks, Cobe began producing music in 2018. The early production work focused on liquid drum & bass, while the first release arrived in 2020: “Space & Time” on Fokuz Recordings. Resurgence also worked with Sub:liminal on a 2020 Fokuz Recordings release. The same year, Sub:liminal also created the Apple Room Drum&Bass label night imprint, around 2017. His full name is Cobe Alexandru-Lucian.
Sub:liminal’s releases have appeared on Fokuz Recordings, Pilot Records, Galacy Records, Four Corners Music, Vandal Records and Liquid Series. The 2023 EP Scenes From A Memory came out on Pilot and brought together Sub:liminal with kVR, Resurgence, Nelver and Gemma Rose; the EP includes collaborations with kVR and Resurgence. Pilot released the EP on February 14, 2023. In 2025, Sub:liminal worked with vocalist Sydney Bryce on “Dreamboat”, released alongside “Take It Back” on Vandal Records. Support for the music has come from London Elektricity, Riya, High Contrast, Chris.SU and Doc Scott, as well as Muffler, DJ Aphrodite, Dexcell, A-Sides, Philth, Melinki and Random Movement.
In 2026, “Cling” arrived as a single on Hospital Records with Charlotte X, followed by “Daydreamer” on Vandal Records. “Mirrors / Spiritual War” was released as a single on Galacy Records, while “Conversations” paired Sub:liminal with soulDR!P on Vandal Ltd. The single “En Busca del Sol”, made with kVR, came out on Pilot. On 22 August 2026, Sub:liminal played at Grand Hotel Bucharest in Bucharest as part of the SAFE&SOUND and Burn Energy tour.
