Altered States was launched by Zeds Dead in March 2021 as a Deadbeats division for deeper, chill and downtempo electronic music. The duo had considered a Deadbeats sub-label for some time, then chose to start the imprint while working on their Catching Z’s series. Its first release was Zeds Dead’s 13-track mixtape Catching Z’s, released on 26 March 2021.
Artists who have released music on Altered States include Annix, IMANU and yunis. The label issued yunis’s single ‘Burnt Sugar’ in 2022, followed by Annix and Blocksberg’s ‘Don’t Waste My Time’ in 2025.
