Counter Records was established in 2005 and is based in the United Kingdom. A sister imprint of Ninja Tune, it shares staff and internal processes with its parent label, with offices in London and Los Angeles. Its early releases focused on guitar-led, rock-leaning albums, including work by The Heavy; the label later widened its scope to indie rock, pop-leaning and experimental electronic music, as well as drum and bass.
Jono McCleery’s album Darkest Light arrived on the label in 2008. The Heavy’s “How You Like Me Now” earned US Gold certification, while ODESZA’s In Return entered the Billboard top 50 and reached No. 1 on its Electronic chart in 2014. Drum and bass artists on Counter Records include D38, whose 2026 single “Through The Rain” was credited with 49th & Main and Caolan Ryan.
