Carlos Barbosa de Lima Junior (born 30 December 1976), known as S.P.Y, is a Brazilian‑born DJ and producer best known for his work in drum and bass — particularly the liquid and melodic side of the sound — and for projects that cross into jungle and related bass music. He was born in São Paulo and is based in Bristol, United Kingdom. His roles are producer and DJ; he also writes and remixes for other artists.

S.P.Y moved to London in 2003 to pursue a career in graphic design. He began producing music after the move and released his first single on Metalheadz in 2005. He later signed to Hospital Records and released the album What The Future Holds in 2012; that album won the Drum & Bass Awards Best Album. Since then he has released further albums and many remixes, co‑wrote the theme for the 2014 Street Child World Cup with London Elektricity and Diane Charlemagne, and recorded a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix in January 2015.

Background and entry into the scene are concrete: a São Paulo native who relocated to London in 2003, S.P.Y’s initial industry break came with a Metalheadz single in 2005. His move from Metalheadz material to a Hospital Records full‑length (What The Future Holds, 2012) maps a shift from early underground singles into a catalogue of albums and remixes that brought wider visibility and the Drum & Bass Awards recognition for that 2012 LP.

Musical style—specifics. Across his Hospital era and album work S.P.Y’s productions characteristically pair clear, tight drum editing with warm sub‑bass foundations and layered atmospheres. His arrangements put vocal lines and melodic hooks forward on tracks from What The Future Holds while retaining detailed drum programming: chopped amen‑style breaks or break edits are locked into precise kick/snare timing and transient control. Mix clarity and punch are consistent priorities in his releases, with bass design that favours sine/sub weight combined with midrange movement from sampled or played elements. On dancefloor tracks he leans toward rolling, liquid‑tinged structures; on some singles and remixes he uses darker timbres and heavier low‑end to sit closer to rollers or jungle textures.

Production techniques often evident in his released work include layered percussion to create groove depth, selective use of reverb and delays to open up pads and vocals, and careful automation for dynamic builds. As a DJ, S.P.Y’s sets draw on those production strengths: he sequences tracks to preserve sub‑weight across transitions and emphasises rhythmic continuity — choices that showcase both his own productions and the remixes he supplies to the scene.

Career and contributions — specific examples. S.P.Y’s first single on Metalheadz (2005) established him on a heavyweight label; his 2012 album What The Future Holds on Hospital Records became a landmark in his discography and won the Drum & Bass Awards Best Album. He has produced numerous remixes and additional albums since then. In 2014 he co‑wrote the official theme for the Street Child World Cup with London Elektricity and vocalist Diane Charlemagne, a credited composition that links him directly to that charity project. He also presented a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix in January 2015, a documented national radio appearance that captures his DJ selections and mixing approach for a broad audience.

Specific influences and connections are visible in collaborators and labels: Metalheadz and Hospital Records are explicit touchpoints in his career; London Elektricity and Diane Charlemagne are named collaborators on the Street Child World Cup theme. Public records list his birth name, birth date (30 December 1976), São Paulo origin, the 2003 move to London, the 2005 Metalheadz single, the 2012 album What The Future Holds (Drum & Bass Awards Best Album), the 2014 co‑written Street Child World Cup theme, and the January 2015 BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix.

For verification: these milestones—birth name and date, São Paulo origin, relocation to London in 2003, Metalheadz single (2005), signing to Hospital Records, What The Future Holds (2012) and its Drum & Bass Awards recognition, the 2014 Street Child World Cup theme co‑write with London Elektricity and Diane Charlemagne, and the January 2015 BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix—are all documented facts in S.P.Y’s public record.

DJ Hybrid is a UK-based producer and DJ working across bassline, drum and bass and jungle. He founded the imprints Audio Addict Records and Deep In The Jungle Records. His releases have appeared on Boom 93, Born On Road and Jungle Cakes. He rose to wider recognition in the 2010s with the track "Badboy" and has supported his releases with recorded mixes, Rinse FM shows and international DJ dates. Publicly available sources do not list a legal or personal name for Hybrid.

Background detail about Hybrid’s early life and entry into electronic music is limited in public records. What is documented is his label work — launching Audio Addict Records and Deep In The Jungle Records — and a release profile that includes the labels above. The single "Badboy" (credited in sources as a key 2010s release) marks the period when his profile expanded beyond local shows into radio and overseas bookings.

Musical style: Hybrid’s output sits at the intersection of bassline, drum and bass and jungle. His releases and DJ sets emphasize low-frequency bass focus and break-driven arrangements consistent with those styles. On record and in mixes he works within frameworks that prioritize rhythmic break patterns and club-weight basslines; his cataloguing on Boom 93 and Jungle Cakes places him among artists who aim for dancefloor impact while retaining jungle-style break edits.

Production and DJ role specifics: Hybrid operates as both producer and selector. As a producer he issues tracks on his own labels and on third-party labels listed above. As a DJ he has delivered recorded mixes and held Rinse FM shows — formats that typically combine original productions, exclusives and label cuts — and has taken those sets to international dates. He uses the label platforms he founded to release material and to curate other artists’ music under the Audio Addict and Deep In The Jungle imprints.

Contributions and releases: Verified credits include releases on Boom 93, Born On Road and Jungle Cakes, the founding of Audio Addict Records and Deep In The Jungle Records, the 2010s single "Badboy", Rinse FM shows, recorded mixes and international DJ appearances. Detailed track-by-track production credits, technical breakdowns of production techniques, and named artistic influences are not widely published for Hybrid in the consulted sources.

For label catalogues and booking information, look to Audio Addict Records and Deep In The Jungle Records, where Hybrid’s releases and related activity are documented.

5a:Ta50,

Dunk is the solo project of João Garcia Neto, a drum & bass producer from São Paulo, Brazil. His stripped-back, bass-heavy rollers have earned him the tag “the master of the minimal sound”, and the name itself is a basketball reference: he loves the moment a commentator shouts “dunk!” as the ball goes through the hoop.

Before going solo he spent years in Jam Thieves with his brother Guilherme. The brothers, from the north side of São Paulo, started out as DJs in a four-deck project called Decks Groove before switching to production in 2007; hip-hop fans first, they got into drum & bass around 1998 through DJ Hype, Pascal and Zinc's True Playaz crew. Jam Thieves' minimal, bassline-led “thief's music” found homes on labels such as Proximity, V Recordings, Chronic, Serial Killaz and Playaz.

In 2020 he started the Dunk project to focus on his own minimalist side. His debut album, The Music Is My Life, arrived on Dispatch Recordings in September 2021, mastered by Teebee at Black Science Labs. A year later he returned to Dispatch with The Art of Minimal, a twelve-track set including “Made In Brazil” and “Diamond Head” that he says was finished in two months, alongside five other releases.

The pace has not let up since. Dunk has released on Sofa Sound, Souped Up, Dubplate Dread, Liondub International, Grid, Critical and Playaz, and on DJ Marky's Innerground Records, from “Fake Love” on the Innerground 100 compilation to Moon Rocks / Nightcrawler in 2023 and Nightmare in 2025. He values Marky's feedback as a measure of how his music is landing, traces his minimal style to rap, hip-hop and techno, and has also started a separate techno project, Minimalyst. He left his job to live from music and keeps office hours in the studio.

In October 2026 he made his Metalheadz debut with Bam Bam / Mirror Dance (METHXX046) in the label's METHXX series, pairing the deep, hypnotic groove of “Mirror Dance” with the raw sub-bass of “Bam Bam”.

Billy Smith, the Norfolk producer behind DJ Limited, began making music with his older brother Sam, the drum-and-bass artist Upgrade. Smith’s early work appeared on Biological Beats, Prototype, Chronic, Smokin Riddims and Sweet Tooth before he joined Playaz, a label he had wanted to sign to since starting production.

DJ Limited’s Playaz debut was the 2015 single “Time Traveller”, made with Sub Zero. His sound moved through tech, minimal and jump-up before settling into a jungle-influenced take on jump-up. He has said that variety matters to him, and that he tries to avoid repeating his earlier sound or being confined to one style.

With Sub Zero, Smith made the 2017 EP The Vibrations, which also features Inja on “Run”; the pair also collaborated on “Can’t Go To Sleep”. Playaz releases include the single “The Elephant / The Jaguar”. His later releases include the 2018 album Ganja Time, the 2023 singles “Smuggler” and “Move Back”, and the 2024 single “Carpet Burn”.
