London Records began as the name Decca used for its American releases after splitting its British and US operations, and in Britain it also carried US labels such as Chess, Atlantic and Sun. After PolyGram bought Decca in 1979, London ran more independently, with subsidiaries including FFRR, and in the 1990s it was home to acts such as Happy Mondays and Shakespears Sister. It later passed to Warner, under the London Records 90 name.
In 2017 Because Music founder Emmanuel de Buretel acquired London’s output, including rights to more than 50 artists, and the label resumed as an independent operation within the Because Group in London, with Laura Kelly brought in to lead its new direction. Its roster includes Goldie, Orbital, Alewya, Joalin and Shadow Child, and LDN Records is its sister imprint.
On the drum and bass side, Goldie’s 1994 single Inner City Life (The Remixes) came out on London, and in 2025 the label issued Virgil (Seba & Paradox Remix), credited to Goldie, Rufige Kru and Seba. Phase and Submotive have also released music there.
