Goldie

Goldie, born Clifford Price, grew up in Walsall, where punk rock, pop and reggae caught his attention as a child. Before his work in drum and bass, he became known as a graffiti artist; an art teacher was an important early influence. In 1990, Price moved to London and entered the club scene through Rage at Heaven. He also worked in design and A&R for 4hero’s Reinforced label, producing his first track as Ajax Project in 1992. That same year, recording as Metalheads, he released “Terminator”, an early track that helped establish his reputation.

Goldie also recorded as Rufige Kru, whose early Metalheadz releases included “Killermuffin” and “Menance”. In 1994, he co-founded Metalheadz with DJs Kemistry and Storm, building a label at the heart of the UK jungle and drum-and-bass scene. His work as a producer and DJ brought him wider attention during the 1990s. “Angel” featured vocals from Diane Charlemagne, of Urban Cookie Collective, while the 1998 album Saturnz Return explored a wider range of tempos and tones, with more personal experiments than Timeless. The EP Ring of Saturn also appeared in 1998.

Goldie’s work has extended beyond drum and bass records into mixes and collaborations. His FabricLive 58 mix drew on sounds associated with late-1990s and early-2000s drum and bass, and included new music from Metalheadz. In 2017, producer James Davidson and Goldie formed Subjective; their first album was Act One: Music For Inanimate Objects. Davidson and Greg Hepworth’s duo Ulterior Motive produced Goldie’s 2017 album The Journey Man, and Goldie and Davidson recorded together as Subjective during its making. Goldie also releases under the name Metalheads, alongside Rufige Kru.

Recent releases include the 2023 singles “Mein khush hu” and “Game of the Gods”. “Sunlight (Special Request Remix)” followed in 2023, with Lady Blackbird and Subjective credited alongside Goldie. In 2026, he released the single “Right Now” on Metalheadz and “Jungle Daze (Break Remix)” with Break and Natalie Williams. Goldie also played at Pisces on 8 October 2026.
