Rubik Records is a drum and bass label started around 2001–2002 by Steve Jeffery, known as BCee, and Douglas Ross, who produces as Kubiks. It grew out of Rubik Cube, a drum and bass club night Ross ran in Bristol, and its records were distributed through Nu Urban Music. The first release was Kubiks and BCee’s “Life Changes” / “Sub Funktional”, and the pair put out about a dozen records together, with liquid funk and deep, soulful drum and bass at the heart of the sound.
BCee left in 2005 to concentrate on Spearhead Records, and Kubiks took over. In 2010 he handed management to Calculon, with Methodus joining as A&R, and the label’s base later moved to San Diego in the United States. Later releases include Technimatic’s “Vermillion / Dropping The Chips (Remixes)” in 2013, and Lenzman has also released music on Rubik.
