Last week saw the release of an album that probably every neurofunk fan had been waiting for.
“Z3R0 H0U2” is, in a way, Gridlok’s response to the political events that forced him to move from America to Amsterdam. And here, in the Netherlands, he found his new musical “home.” The release was originally planned for Virus Recordings, but in the end it was put together by the people behind one of the most popular drum and bass labels—Blackout Music. He was assisted in this by some other impressive names: Optiv, BTK, Mindscape, the label’s owners themselves—Black Sun Empire—as well as his now former fellow countrymen Hive and AK1200.
“Zero hour” means “the day of reckoning,” and in military terminology, “the time when an offensive begins.” Whatever Ryan actually had in mind, the title reflects the album’s dark essence well. Nevertheless, for Gridlok this is merely one stage in his creative journey...
