London-based Blu Mar Ten formed in 1995, with Chris Marigold and Michael Tognarelli making up the production group. The act’s early work centred on drum and bass, particularly its atmospheric side, before its releases began to stretch into ambient, house, breaks, techno and downtempo. Its first track, “The Fountain” / “Lunar,” came out on Way Out Records in 1996. Early single releases preceded a move to Good Looking Records, the label run by LTJ Bukem, where Blu Mar Ten became part of the label’s drum and bass output. The group left Good Looking Records in 2001. Its work for the label included appearances on the Logical Progression, Earth and Progression Sessions LPs.
Good Looking Records issued the album Producer 03 in 2002. Its first album, The Six Million Names of God, followed in 2003 on Exceptional Records, with contributions from Blame, Nor Elle and Fink. In 2008, the track “Why Me Why Now” appeared on Exceptional Records. By then, Blu Mar Ten’s work had also reached labels including Hospital Records and Shogun Audio.
The album Natural History arrived in 2009, followed by Love Is the Devil in 2011. Blu Mar Ten established its own label, Blu Mar Ten Music, in 2012; the group’s albums were also issued on Blu Mar Ten Records. Remixes came out in 2012, with versions by dBridge, Marcus Intalex and BCee. The 2013 album Famous Lost Words featured Seba and Robert Manos. Blu Mar Ten also remixed Erykah Badu’s single “On & On.” At fabric in London on January 7, 2010, the group appeared in a Med School room. The 2009 album also received remixes by Klute, Bop and Stray.
In 2019, Blu Mar Ten released the single “Grow” on Spearhead Records with BCee and Charlotte Haining, followed in 2020 by Grow EP on the same label with BCee. That year, Blu Mar Ten also released the album Wardown. Its work has ranged across drum and bass, breakbeat, house, ambient and techno, building on the early connection to Good Looking Records while moving through releases on Hospital Records, Shogun Audio and its own label.
